Accountants as Board Directors
According to a new survey of chartered accountants in Canada, more than a quarter of them hold at least one board position.

More than half of these serve on the board of a social or charitable organization; 30% are directors of a privately held company; 9% serve on the board of an industry or trade association and 8% serve on the board of a public company or one of its subsidiaries.
The survey findings also suggest that compensation is not a primary reason accountants choose to act as directors — only 10% of respondents serving on a board receive any compensation for their role. And, among these, the median compensation is $28,000.
