LinkedIn is certainly something that can not be ignored. More "mature" professionals especially need to take notice and start utilizing such powerful networking tools, otherwise they will certainly miss opportunities and lose a competitive edge in the job market.

Thanks for the shout-out Rick and great comment, Nancy.

You are correct that it is all about strategy and we made that point repeatedly. Social Media & Networks are just another tool to build more relationships. Our panel of under 35 Professionals talked about how they used social networks to connect faster and deeper with staff, clients, and peers. We heard how they use twitter to stay ahead in the Profession and several stories of getting clients. Then there are the other benefits like Search Engine Optimization for the firm and key people.

It is all about building and maintaining relationships - both virtually and physically and truly not transactional.

Thanks for pointing that out.

We need to educate accounting professionals on how to connect with the right people on social networks, as well as in their on-the-ground networking activities.

When people don't have a strategy, and people don't experience some benefit from the effort and time invested, they lose motivation.

Networking doesn't work when we look at it transactionally. That being said, strategically learning how to leverage Linked In, HubSTREET, and other sites, relationships can help to produce beneficial opportunities more rapidly.
