Brian Austin, Avalara Director of Accountant & Industry Relations, warns accountants about burgeoning support in Congress for the Marketplace Fairness Act, which would enable state governments to collect sales taxes and use taxes from remote retailers with no physical presence in their state.
Clients of all sizes, especially small business, will be coming to their trusted advisers for knowledge and information and hands-on help in dealing with these new taxes, Austin says.
“Accountants should be on the front lines in getting information out to their clients about the act,” he says.
