Another kind of “data dump”
Stunned shoppers couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw 20 to 30 garbage bags filled with confidential client files spilling out of an accounting firm’s front door onto the sidewalk.
Calls flooded in to the local newspaper and the firm — Vale & West in Reading, England — was put on the defensive.
Partner Jason Pike said: “We are as surprised and disappointed as everyone else about this.”
Apparently, an Iron Mountain courier failed to show. And the firm hauled the bags back inside. But the public relations damage had been done.
