…then you either remember an old New York subway ad, or you’re under 40.

And if you’re not texting on your cell phone, you should be. Because your clients are.

A new Warrillow study shows 39% of all small business owners texting. And it’s not just Generation Y owners. Younger business owners almost unanimously report texting. And fully 59% of owners aged 28 to 44, and over a third of owners aged 44 to 62 use text messages.

  1. I do not believe these statistics. Are they confusing text messages and email via cell phone? These are technically two different technologies. Blackberry’s, etc. have caught on, but I do not know anyone other than teeny-boppers who are actually texting.

I have been an avid user of my Blackberry for a couple of years now, but I simply do not text – nor do any of my collegues. In fact, when asked, most of them do not even know how and all are under 40.

I text everyday, it is the quickest way to get to my staff, colleague and my kid. Unless they are glue to a computer all day, not everyone has email access on their cell phones; but they have their cell phones with them at all time. A quick text message always gets the point across without being intrusive and it saves time from needless small talks.

In today’s world, information is power; texting is just another way to disseminate and receive information via technology. I think people who turn their nose on texting are doing themselves a dis-service.
