From the Folks Who Brought You GoToMyPC…

… comes GoToAssist.

GoToMyPC has gained a legion of fans among people who need to access their computer in the office from their laptop on the road or at home. But now the same people at Citrix are beta testing GoToAssist Express. The application allows tech support to take over any computer, any where — with the user’s permission of course.

Citrix Online, which also markets the popular GoToMeeting app, is targeting local CPA firms and accounting VARs (value-added resellers) with its new GoToAssist Express remote support solution. The software is a small-business flavor of the corporate version of the same product. WebEx and LogMeIn, of course, offer similar solutions, but none nearly as friendly as the one we got demo’d for us.

For CPAs and accounting VARs, GoToAssist Express promises to alleviate the hassles of driving 20 minutes to do 10 minutes of work on a client’s computer. The application is due to be released, we’re told, “in Q2.” In the meantime, the beta is free at http://express.gotoassist.com.

Accounting VAR Felton Frantz, at Frantz Information Systems Inc., is a believer. “For our small shop with two full time support techs, this product delivers a terrific cost/benefit contribution. It’s net based architecture, ease of installation, simple connection procedure and overall ease of use all contribute to the utility of the product. Additional key features for us include supporting unattended connections, integrated file transfer, running up to 8 support sessions at once and session reporting capabilities.”
