A Self-Assessment for Leaders

Family business CEOs, like CPA firm owners, should periodically undergo a critical self-analysis to assess whether they still have what it takes to evaluate market conditions and reformulate company strategy.

This process of personal benchmarking, requires asking six key questions, as difficult and unpleasant as they may be:

  1. Do I still understand what is driving today’s market?
  2. Am I able to anticipate tomorrow’s market requirements?
  3. Do I allow new ideas from others or am I upset that they are not mine?
  4. Am I sufficiently flexible?
  5. Do I still like my job?
  6. Would the company be better off with a new manager providing fresh insight?
