LinkedIn, undoubtedly the “go-to” social media platform for prospects to check out CPAs, is rolling out a messaging feature to allow real-time chat conversations. And it’s about time.

Until now, LinkedIn supported only email-like communication. But with messaging, you can actually have a conversation.

But now, with “messaging,” LinkedIn makes it possible for CPAs to have “conversations” with their connections. Everyone knows how “chats” and “text messages” help in short-form, need-based conversations build relationships. With LinkedIn as the real business-connections platform, messaging on LinkedIn will now help CPAs have conversations that build stronger relationships with their connections.

What’s new? For starters, a chat-style messaging window, with organized threads help quickly recall the context of each discussion thread with each connection, thereby helping address the issues on hand without wasting time in “flashback recall.” Now, you can attach photos and documents to your LinkedIn messages, add stickers, emojis and GIFs into the conversations you’re having 1:1 or with a group.

This changes many things. With the new messaging user interfaces, many things that you did on LinkedIn e.g. invitations, forwards, introductions etc. will change.

Or the possibilities with voice and video to make conversations more compelling.”

How CPAs can leverage LinkedIn messaging:

  1. As a business-networking platform, LinkedIn can help CPAs create and nurture business relationships with conversations when needed. It is like a cloud-based business contacts management system that doubles as a CRM platform.
  1. LinkedIn has a service called InMails, which “guarantees” delivery of email or gives a full refund if you don’t receive a response. One of the reasons behind this guarantee is because LinkedIn requires users to confirm their email i.d.’s; i.e.: there is a guarantee that LinkedIn InMail will reach the inbox of the user. With the LinkedIn app on cellphones, your message will be guaranteed to reach the user. And this can be very useful during deadline situations like tax season. It is a great new feature that integrates reachability with responsive behavior.
  1. It can also help in reducing the time it takes to start conversations with new connections. Research indicates that when users reach out via your website, your chances of doing business with those prospects increase dramatically if you respond within a few minutes. If you start a conversation the moment a new connection is established on LinkedIn, you might catch the user when he or she is online and you are on top of his or her mind.
