J. Clarke Price: Today’s Trends Shaping Tomorrow’s Profession [VIDEO]

Are we one misstep away from extinction?

J. Clarke Price, president and CEO, Ohio Society of CPAs,
talks to Rick Telberg for CPA Trendlines.

As bright as the future of the CPA profession may be, Price warns that the industry may be just a short step away from destruction in a single stroke.

In the accompanying Skype video interview, Price, who is retiring Dec. 31 as president and CEO of the Ohio Society of CPAs, says the profession is “one bill away from extinction.” And yet, he remains bullish on the business. He talks about the regulatory and legislative landscape, the evolution of the CPA’s role in business, the changing dynamics of the firm, and some of the key trends that are shaping the future of the profession.

Price may be relinquishing the reins on the Ohio society, but, frankly, he’s not likely to fade away quietly.

During his 22-year tenure as president and CEO, he has led several high-profile legislative initiatives for OSCPA including driving tort reform, overhauling Ohio’s antiquated tax code and the 2009 creation of the Ohio Budget Advisory Task Force in response to Ohio’s $8 billion budget crisis.

Currently, the OSCPA is leading a coalition of 18 professional organizations in Ohio driving for major reform of the state’s municipal income tax structure.

Recently, more than 500 CPAs looked on as Price became the second of only two non-CPAs in OSCPA’s long history to receive the Gold Medal for Meritorious Service to the Accounting Profession. More than 20 past Gold Medal recipients joined Price on stage as he accepted OSCPA’s highest honor.
