Tax season isn’t just hectic. It’s unhealthy. It has to be done, of course, but make an effort to mitigate the mental and physical impact.

- Eat lunch out of your office. Eat slowly.
- Go for a 15-minute walk in the middle of afternoon instead of eating a snack.
- Take a weekday off in March.
- Respond immediately to any client complaint.
- If you won’t meet a promised deadline, call client as soon as you know it and give a new date. Don’t wait.
- Do something that is fun in the office on April 1st.
- Call a family member you haven’t spoken to lately.
- Take a day to watch a sports event, see a play, go to a museum, or other enjoyable event.
- Read for enjoyment.
- Realize that while you are working under extreme pressure, so are your staffers and their families. Be gentle.
