We’re quoted:
- “Accounting is the database system for business, and when it is automated we call that information technology. It’s a natural path for any accountant who is working with business to gravitate into IT,†says Rick Telberg, a principal at Bay Street Advisors, which provides the accounting and financial communities with marketing and strategic consulting. Telberg also authors the CPA Trendlines blog. “They are still dealing with the core information systems of business, and there is also a commonality in the mindset between the engineering it takes to work in IT and the understanding of business processes it takes to work in accounting and finance.â€
- Telberg says he sees CPAs, particularly those who have worked in business and industry-side accounting, moving into areas like financial services, banking, lending and insurance. And, indeed, career opportunities for accountants within the financial community are many, and the transition likely smoother if they are already CPAs. “It provides them with an entree to credibility to any business situation that might come up. CPAs carry a special degree of trust and credibility,†Telberg explains.
